Wings and wait

The endurance of a humming bird or a sparrow
as they flock hundreds of miles
during fall towards warmer lands
never got my focus
Purple Maple leaves fully occupying the sidewalk
while scaling down my pace towards Railway Station
grab my attention

During winter I forget to check
even when there is no snowfall
the saplings my old man planted
during his recent visit

Spring’s bloom and hide-and-seek
with the rains
and the partying and barbeque get-togethers
sweep me away from almost everything
and I never knew when these birds returned

Autumn and more rain
and the workload without holidays
and old man making his next visit
this cycle repeats
the dates and breakups too

The chair near the fire place
is never occupied
except for my old man

There is no firewood either
room-heater is neither waiting for
nor missing winter
