Midge

This will be the second poem

I’ve written about my cat.

She chewed the first

and honestly,

That was for the best.

Sometimes I wish

she’d eat me too.

There are lots of ways

to be devoured

but I’d prefer it to happen slowly,

with love,

with real, animal hunger,

and without remorse.

If I died suddenly

it would be natural for her.

We would take care of each other

until the very end.

She would be fed

and my body

wouldn’t be wasted.

Call it reciprocation.

This poem was written by Sarah Michelle Hanten.
